Barbados just renounced the Queen. Now it’s time for Canada to follow suit

Posted on October 3, 2020 by admin

When I came to Canada from Saudi Arabia as a child in the winter of 1993, I was surprised by many things: signage written in two languages, the depth of cold, and the weak sleet on the ground (Hollywood had promised me fluffy snow – this was a major betrayal). No one had mentioned the Queen to me, or that her image would appear non-stop in classrooms, on TV and even in our pockets, her portrait on our bills and coins. A Canadian Head of State

When Canada takes control of its office of head of state, by filling the position independently and internally, we will achieve another milestone in our evolution as a nation.

Values

Only when our head of state is selected democratically will our highest office embody the values of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Independence

After 150 years of nationhood it is truly unfortunate that Canada still lacks the self-assurance to fill and administer its own office of head of state. Canada is the only member of the G7 which does not independently administer its highest office.
